Elena in the mornings

Posted: October 14, 2010 in Uncategorized

Elena Pagliarello is settling into her new full time job as assistant producer of the Fan 590′s morning show with Andrew Krystal.

Elena (Class of 2009) came up with her spot the old fashioned way — she earned it. After doing her placement at the Fan last fall and early winter, she stayed on as an intern doing all sorts of jobs and making herself both known and trusted.

She’s going to do a great job, and we wish her well.

Congratulations to Matt Padanyi (Class of 2009) who has joined 680 News in Toronto full time as a news anchor.

He’ll be reading the news on the night shift.

680 News is where Matt did his placement last year and they liked him so much they kept him around.

Way to go Matt.

Here comes da Freej

Hockey Night in Canada personality Elliotte Friedman made a recent trip to the graduate sports journalism program, speaking in Jeff Girodat’s stats and research class.

Elliotte, whose nickname is The Freej, has been hosting between period interviews and features on hockey for the last few years. He began his career at the Fan 590 all-sports radio in Toronto before moving on to television with The Score.

He then moved to CBC for football, basketball and hockey, plus Olympics and other events.

Elliotte spoke to the class on the number of subjects, including the importance of versatility.

Thanks to The Freej for his kindness.

Here’s Michael Seff (Class of 2009) showing off his multi-media training in this golf report for the Miami Herald.

Good news for two of the class of 2010 who have earned placements this fall at CBC Sports.

Kaitlyn Peer and Rod Perry will be working at the John St. studios on multiple projects.

Congratulations to them

Rosa Garcia writes the FIFA World Cup final for the Toronto Observer.

Congratulations to Spain and to all of our students who covered every minute of the action over an exciting month.

What a year it’s been for pitchers in baseball.

Stephen Sweet (Class of 2009) of the Examiner found that out in Barrie, Ont., when a minor bantam pitcher threw a no-no.

You just never know when these are going to happen.

Elena’s double dip

Here’s some great work by Elena Pagliarello (Class of 2009) at the Fan 590 radio station in Toronto.

She provided the station with a story to use on the radio, stories to use on the website and photos to go with those stories.

Way to go, Elena.
